Just before AGU, my wife and I had the opportunity to be guest speakers in a special education initiative at the Alameda County Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California. My wife is an expert on trauma psychology and spoke to inmates in this capacity. I addressed 2 classes of inmates regarding global warming, how we know it happened in the past, it’s happening now, and where it’s likely to be going.
The class curriculum was very good (“Roots of Success” by Prof. Raquel Pinderhughes of SFSU). I was surprised by how well informed these guys were. In fact, I’ve never been more convinced that the ideal way to teach any kind of subject begins with environmental literacy.
